Now entering into its fifth year of helping sick and disadvantaged children all over Australia through the tireless work of the Starlight Children’s Foundation, Cruise for Charity is set to raise the bar once more, with the addition of a Northern Territory cruise. This means that Cruise for Charity now reaches every corner of the country! While the $113,000 that Cruise for Charity raised in 2007 was a phenomenal result, our belief is that we can always do better, and in 2008, we’re extremely proud and excited to announce that Cruise for Charity is GOING GREEN!
This year, Cruise for Charity has partnered with GreenFleet; a not-for-profit organisation that plants native trees on behalf of donating people/businesses to reduce salinity, increase soil stability, and soak up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
With a portion of each participant’s donation going to GreenFleet in 2008, the CO2 emissions from the 3500+ Commodores in attendance will be offset, making the events ‘Carbon Friendly’!
Cruise for Charity 5 is expected to take in more than 2,000,000km with over 4000 Commodores expected to attend. This will produce almost 3000 tonnes of CO2 emissions that will be absorbed through the planting of more than 2650 native trees around Australia.
Not only will this offset the emissions from the participating vehicles, but it will also improve salinity levels in affected areas and help prevent erosion in others. Cruise for Charity – helping sick children and now the environment too!
